Beware of the Telegram “Google Review” Scam — My ₹20,000 Loss
I’m sharing this to make sure others don’t go through what I experienced. Recently, I came across a job offer on Telegram that promised quick money for writing “Google reviews.” The person claimed it was legitimate freelance work, and they even showed fake screenshots of payments made to others.
At first, it seemed harmless. I was asked to “complete small review tasks” and send proof, and they sent me small payments to build my trust. But later, they said I needed to “upgrade” or “deposit money” to unlock higher-paying tasks. Believing them, I sent ₹20,000. That was the last I heard from them — they blocked me and disappeared.
I want to make it clear: this is a scam. They target people looking for side income, use fake profiles, and vanish after taking your money.
- Contact on Telegram — You receive a job offer from an unknown number or group.
- Small Trust Payments — They pay a tiny amount for your first task to look genuine.
- High-Paying Task Trap — They claim you must deposit money first.
- Disappearance — Once you send the deposit, they block you.
- Never send money to “unlock” a job or task — genuine employers pay you, not the other way around.
- Verify the company — search online for official websites, reviews, and contact numbers.
- Avoid Telegram job offers from strangers — especially those promising unusually high returns for easy work.
- Check payment channels — scams often use personal bank accounts, UPI IDs, or crypto wallets.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels “too good to be true,” it usually is.
If you’ve been targeted or scammed, report the incident immediately to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or your local police cyber cell.
